Where to Begin?
This site is still in development, meaning that we are not 100% sure of what it should cover and what it should contain. The main focus of our work is social entrepreneurship and helping social entrepreneurs succeed by offering news, digests, videos and interesting articles on this topic. Share Proudly sees itself as a support center for emerging social entrepreneurs, who are still trying to navigate through this field, and want to learn what other organizations and networks exist.First off, what is social entrepreneurship? There have been a lot of answers that all have to do with one thing – establishing successful businesses that attack and solve some of the global challenges. Unlike common businesses, social entrepreneurs do not measure the success of their ventures in the profits made, but rather in the social changes and reforms they accomplish. If you are interested in learning more about social entrepreneurship, and what it defines please refer to the site of Skoll Foundation, Ashoka and of course Wikipedia.
If you are not sure whether you are a social entrepreneur or not, consider answering some of these questions:
- * What social change do you want to see?
- * Are you trying to make this change through a sustainable business model?
- * Is your business concerned with doing good or just looking at the bottom line?
- * Are you trying to give back to the community?
- * Are you passionate about what you are doing?
These questions are not the guidelines to determine who the social entrepreneurs are and who are not. They are just food for thought that perhaps can get you thinking about what your organization does, and how you are trying to shape the world.
Social entrepreneurship, just like corporate responsibility is full of grey regions. How much should a company give back to be considered responsible, what percentage of organic cotton should be in a t-shirt for it to be considered organic, what percent of waste should the corporation recycle, for it to be considered environmentally friendly?
Here, at this site, it is not our job to be a judge and draw the cut-off lines, we are happy to help anybody who is interested in shaping the world, those who are not probably will not even be here. So Welcome.
